PRESS RELEASE 2 JULY 2002

Support Kent Schools is happy to consider valid independent research on the issue of selective education.
However Professor Jesson's conclusions in his review of the structure and performance of secondary education in Kent and Medway should come as no surprise to anyone.
He has already made his views known in a previous piece of research which was seriously undermined when it was revealed that the data he used was invalid.

Support Kent Schools therefore needs time to evaluate his latest findings.
Given his track record Professor Jesson's research should be treated with extreme caution.
And, of course, Professor Jesson's sponsor Dr Stephen Ladyman can hardly qualify as an independent in the debate on selective education.
